Big Brother est né des jam-sessions, debut des années soixante, 1090 Page Street ( Sam Andrew, Peter Albin et Chuck Jones).Chet Helms, producteur et propriétaire de la salle de concert Avalon à San Francisco les entend et les prend sous son aile.
Chet Helms présente Janis Joplin au groupe : sa puissance brute colle parfaitement avec le Big Brother. Ils enregistrent deux albums, Big Brother & the Holding Company (1967) et Cheap Thrills (1968).
Le groupe emménage dans une maison, avec Quicksilver Messenger Service et Grateful Dead et jouent ensemble quotidiennement.
Le manager de Bob Dylan persuade Janis de quitter le groupe. En 1968, elle commence une carrière solo ...
Elle forme le Kozmic Blues Band, et enregistre I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama ! (1969).Le groupe se sépare rapidement, Janis forme alors le Full Tilt Boogie Band. Ils enregistrent l'album Pearl (1971), qui sort après sa mort. Il devient l'album le plus vendu de sa courte carrière, grâce à certains tubes comme Me and Bobby McGee et Mercedes-Benz, commentaire social ironique, écrit par Joplin et Michael McClure.

Le 4 Octobre 1970, Janis Joplin est découverte morte d'une overdose d'héroïne dans sa chambre d'hôtel, deux semaines après Jimi Hendrix (mort le 18 septembre).

Buzzcocks (formed Bolton,Manchester 1976),Pete Shelley (vocals, guitar), Howard Devoto (vocals, 1976-77), Steve Diggle (bass, guitar)John Maher (drums)

They are regarded as an important influence on the Manchester music scene, the independent record label movement, punk rock, power pop, pop punk and indie rock. They achieved commercial success with singles that fused pop craftsmanship with rapid-fire punk energy. These singles were collected on Singles Going Steady, described by critic Ned Raggett as a "punk masterpiece"(!!!). The widely covered "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" remains one of their best-known songs.
The name "Buzzcocks" was chosen by Howard Devoto and Pete Shelley after reading the headline "it's the buzz, cocks!" in a review of the TV series Rock Follies in Time Out magazine. The "buzz" is the excitement of playing on stage; "cock" is Manchester slang meaning "youngster". They thought it captured the excitement of the Sex Pistols and nascent punk scene.

Describing Brian De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise as an update of the classic Phantom of the Opera doesn't do justice to this demented movie. While De Palma's Hitchcock homages have sometimes led him into dead ends, this rock & roll remake seems to have liberated De Palma's imagination, and the result is weird and funny, with the scruffy underground spirit of the director's early pictures. The Phantom is one Winslow Leach (William Finley), a nerdy songwriter whose "pop cantata" on the subject of Faust is stolen by a freakish, Phil Spector-like rock impresario called Swan (Paul Williams). After getting his head caught in a vinyl-LP compressor, Leach is transformed into a masked creature, haunting Swan's music palace, the Paradise. De Palma proves how nimbly he can establish narrative rhythm: the story moves like a cannon shot, and the musical numbers (especially in the Alice Cooper-like Paradise sequences) are brilliantly cut. The movie seems to predict the Studio 54 scene, MTV, and punk rock--the last, especially, in the figure of Beef, a screeching singer played by the unhinged Gerrit Graham. The songs were written by Paul Williams, that diminutive '70s music icon (he cowrote the Barbra Streisand wet noodle "Evergreen"), and his performance is a reminder of his peculiar, self-spoofing presence: at one point, the preening Swan announces, "You know how I abhor perfection in anyone but myself." Comedy, musical, horror film, '70s artifact--this movie isn't quite definable, and that's what's wonderful about it. --Robert Horton (A noter que la version française laisse a désirer, NDCC.)

A la fin des années soixante, Marc Bolan (né Mark Feld,1947),fonde un duo nommé Tyrannosaurus Rex. Son premier partenaire, Steve Took,est remplacé par Mickey Finn.
En 1970,le nom devient T.Rex.Leur premier 45 "Ride A White Swan" passe rapidement n 2° au ROYAUME-UNI. En 1971 et 1972 T.Rex invente le "Glam Rock".
Quatre 45t n°1 en Angleterre,deux albums très réussis(Electric Warrior, 1971 et The Slider, 1972).
En 1973,leur succès faiblit, mais toujours des top 10.
Marc Bolan devient alors un grand buveur, tyran et mégalo;1974, il change la formation continuellement:le groupe ne fera plus jamais de top 10.
Le groupe existe toujours (!) sans ses deux membres formateurs ...

Hugh Mundell débute dans la musique a l'âge de 13 ans, en 1975,la même année, il est invité par Augustus Pablo à chanter dans son sound. Après avoir fait ses preuves en enregistrant plusieurs titres deejays pour Pablo sous le nom de Jah Levi, celui-ci produit en 1978 l'album Africa must be free by 1983. Hugh Mundell a 16 ans. L'artiste fera une carrière certes courte mais très productive ; cinq albums et de nombreux singles.

James Marshall Hendrix, plus connu sous le nom de Jimi Hendrix, (né Johnny Allen Hendrix le 27 novembre 1942 à Seattle et mort le 18 septembre 1970 à Londres) était un guitariste, chanteur et compositeur américain. Il est considéré comme l'un des musiciens les plus novateurs du XX^e siècle, notamment en raison de son approche révolutionnaire de la guitare électrique et des techniques d'enregistrement en studio. Jimi Hendrix avait la particularité d'être un guitariste gaucher, mais de jouer sur une guitare de droitier, après avoir remonté les cordes conformément à cette inversion.

Improvisateur sortant des sentiers battus, il libéra son instrument de ses contraintes en utilisant les ressources nées de l'amplification et donna à la guitare électrique moderne ses lettres de noblesse. Son influence dépasse largement le cadre de la musique rock : la plupart des styles musicaux qui se développèrent dans les années 1970 reprirent certains éléments de sa musique. Miles Davis joua ainsi un jazz électrique très marqué par le guitariste (Wikipédia)
